Quit tip number seven.
Alternative treatments.
You may have considered methods to help you quit smoking such as hypnosis or acupuncture.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis proposes to act on underlying impulses to weaken the desire to smoke and strengthen your will to stop.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine that involves inserting fine needles into the skin at specific points in the body.
Related techniques include acupressure, laser therapy and electro stimulation. The aim of these therapies is to reduce withdrawal symptoms. If you do want to try these, just be aware that there is no clear evidence to support these methods as effective ways to quit smoking.
Methods proven to be effective include nicotine replacement therapy, prescription medications, and support from a health professional or Quitline counsellor.
Seek more advice from your GP or a Quitline counsellor, and be wary of cost before going ahead with treatment.
